Church Service Programs

The Right Hand of the Church

The Knights of Columbus are often referred to as "The Right Hand of the Church". While our activities are often centered around Holy Cross church, we are also part of the Prince of Peace Parish community in the greater Lewiston/Lisbon/Sabattus area.

Our support for our Church can be seen in our projects to improve the facilities, such as building a new wheelchair-accessable ramp at the parish office or remodeling a room at Trinity Catholic School. We support our Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians through their religions life, and encourage vocations to the priesthood.

Our Fourth Degree Honor Guard can be found supporting our Chuch in special Masses, parades, and funerals. Other members often work quietly in the background, providing assistance whenever and wherever it is needed.

New Prince of Peace Library Now Open

On Sunday, November 8th, 2009 from 1 to 4 pm, the Prince of Peace Parish held an open house and dedication to Eva Labonte who donated her lifetime collection of reading and research books for parishioners, seminarians, students, priest and the general public to use in the new Prince of Peace Library. Our council was asked to provide servers for the wine and cheese offered during the open house and dedication. Also included were books donated by several parishioners as well as a set of Jewish Encyclopedias by Rabbi Hillel Katzir of the Temple Shalom.

The new library is located in the basement of the parish office at 16 Ste. Croix street next to the Senior Center. It is open during regular office hours Monday through Wednesday 8:30am-5:00pm, Thursdays 8:30am-7:00pm, and Sundays 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Come borrow a book or a video and grow in your faith!

If you would like more information, please contact brother Knight Mark Labonte at 783-8263.

Knights in Action: Holy Cross Elevator Fund Bean Supper 4/3/2010 On Saturday, Apr. 3rd, 2010, our council held a bean supper co-sponsored with l’Union Saint-Jean Baptiste, Council 413 for the purpose of raising funds to help pay off the “Holy Cross Elevator Fund” loan. Advertising was done in the local newspaper and radio as well as the church bulletin. Members and friends gathered on Friday evening to prepare the beans and again on Saturday morning to start baking the beans and set up the hall. Two of our members secured the food for the menu from cold slaw, beans and cold cuts to coffee, buns, butter and milk as well as pickles and beets. Thirteen members of our council and our Ladies Auxiliary baked the desserts. We served a total of 277, including helpers. A raffle of 50/50 for $101.00 and a raffle for 2 complimentary tickets to our next bean supper were given out. A total of $1,4.00 was raised. Which included a matching $500.00 gift towards the elevator by L’union Saint-Jean Baptiste, Council 413. Members of our sponsored Boy Scout Venture Crew 116 also assisted with serving and clean up.

Knights in Action: Feast Day of the Sacred Heart 6/19/2009 Our pastor, Msgr. Marc Caron asked our council to provide member, family, friends and parishioners as well as Honor Guards to celebrate the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart.  The ceremony started with prayers followed by the presentation of a wreath at the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue on the front lawn of Holy Cross church.  A procession to the statue was planned, but due to rain most of the ceremony took place indoors.

Our Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator made the phone calls to organize the honor guards and our Program Director made phone calls to organize our members.

The ceremony for the Sacred Heart of Jesus feast day included two honor guards, 24 total participants including Msgr. Caron, and 8 other Knights. Our Program Director and his wife handed out programs, and the total ceremony lasted about an hour, not including prep time for the honor guards.

Knights in Action: Annointing of the Sick 7/26/2009 Prince of Peace Parish held a special mass for the Anointing of the Sick at Holy Cross church.  We had 3 members of our council and a member of our Ladies Auxiliary help escort people into church and seat them.  She also transported one elderly couple that needed a ride to church and back home.  Three of the 5 priests who concelebrated the mass together are also members of our council; Fr. Robert Lacasse, Fr. Nathan March and Fr. Maurice Morin.

Knights in Action: Maine Marriage Initative 4/25/2009 After hearing of the K of C State Council urging local council’s to help Bishop Malone’s intent to gather signatures against state legislation LD1020 “Same Sex Marriage” proposal our council voted to help in the cause. Our Church Director had a sign up sheet at the meeting for Brother Knights to volunteer themselves and their families as to what mass they would petition. We had 2 petitioners at each of the 3 entrances of the church, for each of the Masses on Saturday and Sunday April 25 and 26, 2009. We collected over 500 signatures. The signatures were given to our council chaplain, Fr. Maurice Morin, who forwarded them to the diocese for submission to the State Legislatures.

Knights in Action: 40 Hour Perpetual Adoration 6/11/2009 Prince of Peace Parish held a 40 Perpetual Adoration in the Holy Cross Church Chapel as part of the Corpus Christi events scheduled from June 11th through June 13th, 2009.  Our council was asked by the Price of Peace Spiritual Director to take the responsibility of getting enough people to sign to provide a minimum of two guards per hour for the 40 hours. We had 24 Knights from several councils and 60 other people that did the 40 hour adoration. Our council's program director and our church director spent 10 hours each calling people and setting up the schedule of assignments for the hours of devotion. Our program director also visited 3 other area councils to make presentations on this project and solicit their help.
